Girlfriends - April 2009

Dancing Into Spring!

Saturday
April 25th
1:00pm

We had a fun time of praise and worship. Psalms says, "Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with tambourine and harp." Psa 149:3.

Praise and worship teams from Pike County Assembly and Saint Michaels in Thomaston led us in a time of praise through dance. We did all lift our spirits in the Lord. "You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy." Psa 30:11.

We played a quick game of "Musical Bags." The one with the bag in hand when the music stopped had to wear the "bloomers" inside for the rest of day. The "bloomers" were actually flowers... Ha Ha!

Lunch was excellent. Jackie and her Girlfriend won the Grand Prize - a Mary Kay basket full of goodies.

Girlfriends October Faith & Fitness

The October Girlfriends gathering was great! We had the best time - getting together with old girlfriends and meeting new ones. All the wonderful homemade hot soups "hit the spot" on such a cool autum day. Everything was beautifully decorated around the themes of fall & fitness.

Patty gave us all a motivating pep talk and explained the many benefits of exercise for body, mind, and soul. Everyone was excited and motivated to get up and get moving. After the talk, the praise team provided live music and song as Patty led us in a simple dance of praise to the Lord. A special thanks to our wonderful praise team (Jason, April, Shelley, Michael).

Table hostesses provided the lovely decorations with fall & fitness themes. Everyone voted for their favorite table. The winner received a special prize.

The winning table (Jane & Dana)

Thought for Today

NOT SOMEONE ELSE

We were saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else. Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years, and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person's share of the work. Whenever there was a job to do, a meeting to attend, or a meeting to chair, one name was on everyone's list: "Let Someone Else do it."Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results. "Someone Else can work that job." It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most liberal givers in our group. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference.S omeone Else was a wonderful person, sometimes appearing super human. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did? When you are asked to help this year, remember - we can't depend on Someone Else anymore.

National Women’s Ministries Day
Sunday, February 26th
You Are God’s Masterpiece

February 26 is National Women’s Ministries Day in the Assemblies of God, a special day on our church calendar when we focus on ministry by and for women in our congregations across the nation.

The theme for 2006, “Masterpiece,” will proclaim that we, the redeemed, are truly God’s masterpiece. Before we accept Jesus as our Savior, we are dead in our sins, doomed, without God, and without hope. But God, the Creator of the universe, is so rich in mercy and He loves us so much that He purchased our freedom from sin through the blood of His Son, Jesus! Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God’s masterpiece; He created us anew in Christ Jesus.

A masterpiece is something passionately and carefully created by a Master and has great value, especially to its Creator. Every woman can understand that she has great value and He will give each a life full of purpose.

The 2006 National Women’s Ministries Day service gives an opportunity for every church to honor the women of the church, and to encourage them to expand the ministries they currently share. National Women’s Ministries Day also allows each congregation an opportunity to give an offering to support the national Women’s Ministries Department. These offerings help cover the costs of and continue the ministries provided to the women of the Assemblies of God across the nation and around the world.

Women's Ministries Unlimited - Fresh Vision

In 2003, the national office introduced Women's Ministries— Unlimited! to emphasize the unlimited opportunities open to women for ministry in their local churches and communities.

Unlimited Passion —We must have passionate hearts to see women discover their God-given gifts and find their place of ministry within the body of Christ. Without passion in our message, women will not develop spiritually and their needs will go unmet.

Unlimited Mission —The mission of your local Women's Ministries should be to reach women, disciple them and help bring wholeness and balance to their lives. By providing an atmosphere for women to strengthen their gifts and by training them to find their place of ministry, women can successfully touch their world for Christ. The most effective way to reach women is at the local church level.

Unlimited Ministry Groups —Many women today do not have the time or the interest to spend time at "just another meeting." We must reach out to women at their point of need. Local Women's Ministries can do this by offering many Ministry Groups.Take a moment to observe the women in your church. You will likely notice women sitting alone, women sitting with their husbands and children, women sitting with friends, and women in the choir or worship team. You will see women of all ages from many different backgrounds. Some are single and some are married. Others are widowed or divorced. Within the mix, you may notice businesswomen, college students, professionals, homemakers, politicians and retirees. One generalized group meeting will not meet the need of every woman. But every one of them shares a common need: to personally know and be known by the Master.

Unlimited Opportunities —Women's Ministries— Unlimited! emphasizes the unlimited ministry opportunities available for women. Whether next door or around the world, the needs of present-day humanity are overwhelming. God desires that women understand who He is and what He can do through their lives as they are yielded to Him.

Dream of how the Lord can use you. Never think your gifts are insignificant or unusable. J.A. McDonald said, "To be permitted to do anything for God is an unspeakable honor."

Women's Ministries is an opportunity for the local church to touch the lives of women by the power of Jesus Christ through outreach, ministry and discipleship.

Our hope is that you will catch a fresh vision. With the help of the Holy Spirit, may you be encouraged to step out and share the hope of the gospel in a more profound way.

Sisters

A young wife sat on a sofa on a hot humid day, drinking iced tea and visiting with her Mother. As they talked about life, about marriage, about the responsibilities of life and the obligations of adulthood, the mother clinked the ice cubes in her glass thoughtfully and turned a clear, sober glance upon her daughter.

"Don't forget your Sisters," she advised, swirling the tea leaves to the bottom of her glass. "They'll be more important as you get older. No matter how much you love your husband, no matter how much you love the children you may have, you are still going to need Sisters.

Remember to go places with them now and then; do things with them. And remember that “Sisters" also means your girlfriends, your daughters, and other women relatives too. You'll need other women. Women always do."

'What a funny piece of advice!' the young woman thought. 'Haven't I just gotten married? Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a married woman, forgoodness sake! A grownup. Surely my husband and the family we may start will be all I need to make my life worthwhile!

But she listened to her Mother. She kept contact with her Sisters and made more women friends each year. As the years tumbled by, one after another, she gradually came to understand that her Mom really knew what she was talking about. As time and nature work their changes and their mysteries upon a woman, Sisters are the mainstays of her life.

After more than 50 years of living in this world, here is what I've learned:

THIS SAYS IT ALL:
Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't call when they say they will.
Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.

BUT.........Girlfriends are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you. A girlfriend is never farther away than needing her can reach.

When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, your girlfriends will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end. Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you. Or come in and carry you out.

Girlfriends, daughters, daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, mothers, mothers-in-law, aunts, nieces, cousins, and extended family, bless our lives!

The world wouldn't be the same without them, and neither would I. When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we would need each other. Every day, we need each other still.
